Alex absorbs solar radiation of any kind, and transforms it into plasma radiation, which he can exude as focused plasma blasts or as a difuse field which will allow him to fly.
A previous member of the X-Men and the brother to the leader of the X-Men, Alex is currently on detached duty having been a Starjammer and been in space fighting a completely insane stellar war. He comes from being in transit to Earth.
